Physics of Instrumentation and Metrology

The Physics of Instrumentation and Metrology (METRICS) Specialisation Group focuses on the development, utilisation, and performance enhancement of measuring instruments and measurement systems across various scientific and technological applications. Grounded in the principle Omnia in mensura et numero et pondere disposuisti (all things are ordered by measure, number, and weight), this specialisation aims to ensure that all measurement processes are carried out with a high degree of accuracy, precision, and consistency. Students will gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills across a range of topics, including fundamental and digital metrology, microcontroller- and IoT-based instrumentation systems, as well as optical and spintronic technologies. To support learning and experimentation, METRICS is equipped with various facilities, such as instrumentation and optics laboratories, electronic and microcontroller experiment kits, electrical measuring tools, and optical instrumentation devices. The offered modules include Measurement and Metrology, Microcontrollers and Digital Instrumentation, Intelligent Instrumentation Systems, IoT-Based Instrumentation, Industrial Electronics, Optical Metrology, and Photonics and Spintronics. Under the guidance of experienced lecturers such as Dr. Azrul Azwar, Dr. Abdul Muid, and Nurdiyantoro Putra Prasetya, M.Si. METRICS provides an ideal pathway for students interested in exploring modern measurement and instrumentation technologies for industrial and research applications.
