The Physics Department of Universitas Tanjungpura (Untan) brought science learning to life through a community outreach programme (PKM) in Sambas, West Kalimantan, on 19 July 2025. Two exciting activities took place at the local Civil Service Office (BKD), engaging both secondary school teachers and students.
Teachers’ Workshop
Physics teachers took part in a training on how to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create scientific projects and teaching materials. The session covered AI in education, designing interactive textbooks, and crafting effective AI prompts for classroom use.
Student Science Exploration
At the same time, students explored hands-on science stations, learning to detect radioactive materials, observe the sky with telescopes, test water quality, play with microcontrollers, and even make ice cream to learn about heat transfer! Geophysics stations featured weather monitoring tools (AWS), geoelectric mapping, flowmeter demos, and rock identification using geological loupes.
The event was warmly opened by Mr Asep Sjariffudin, S.Pd., M.Pd., Chair of the Sambas Secondary School Headteachers Council. Introductions to Physics and Geophysics programmes were delivered by Dr Azrul Azwar and Dr Yoga Satria Putra, while Dr Bintoro Siswo Nugroho handed over booklets symbolising collaboration between academics and local educators.
This event proves that science is not just about equations on a board, it’s about curiosity, creativity, and real-world technology.
